Strategic Affiliation Agreement

As part of the membership, the Northwell Health Orthopaedic Institute will collaborate with the Rothman Institute to develop centers of expertise for orthopedic care in the New York city, including Manhattan. Membership agreements should be designed to promote strategic and financial direction between organizations across mission areas, while recognizing that both individual and reciprocal objectives will develop over time. A well-functioning affiliate committee, made up of leaders from each organization, is essential to deal with these changes. As competitive pressure continues to grow, branding and philanthropy are becoming an increasingly important source of competitive advantage for some AMCs. As these elements are often overlooked in membership discussions, many agreements unfortunately do not adequately address the range of potential problems that related companies may face. One such question is how to combine existing brand values (e.g. B the name of the university or health system and visual identity) into a compelling and differentiated brand strategy that represents the CMA while preserving the identity and brand value of its component units. From a philanthropic perspective, organizations often face potential conflicts when seeking gifts from grateful patients treated by the university faculty at a health system institution. Membership agreements should contain clear guidelines and processes to control these decisions and ensure that efforts are coordinated and that the combined resources of the CMA`s component units are fully exploited. Although specific responsibilities vary, the Membership Committee should conduct joint strategic planning and faculty recruitment efforts, prioritise increased opportunities for investment or programme development, and ensure that an appropriate sub-committee or task force structure is in place to monitor important operating areas relevant to the partnership (e.g.

B finance and operations). In addition, the Committee may need to bridge cultural gaps between universities and health systems, guide important change initiatives, and ensure that the needs and priorities of each organization are taken into account in a decision-making process that steers entities in a coherent direction. Northwell Health, based in New Hyde Park, New Jersey, has entered into a strategic partnership with the Rothman Institute, a private orthopedic practice that cares for patients at 25 sites in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
