Wcmrc Agreement

As part of our response services package, we offer three types of memberships and agreements. WSMC has a mutual agreement with the Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC) for the mutual benefit of WSMC and WCMRC members. This makes it easier for WSMC and WCMRC members to meet the requirements of the Canada Shipping Act or the WA State Oil Spill Contingency Plan. There are no fees, it is a mutual agreement with a separate form. WSMC ships take the route from Juan de Fuca to CAN Waters. WSMC vessels calling only at U.S. ports and departing from the Strait of Juan de Fuca in CAN waters must have a WGMRC Juan de Fuca Affiliation Agreement, which is stored with the WGMRC, in order to obtain coverage under this Agreement. This registration provides WSMC vessel coverage by WCMRC for the purpose of complying with Canadian regulations and in the event of a leak into Canadian waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. This Agreement authorizes the ship to cover only during transit through Canadian waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and does not allow the ship to call at a Canadian port or pass through other Canadian waters. WGMRC fees for this limited purpose will be waived. Juan de Fuca registration forms must be completed and submitted annually to the British Columbia Chamber of Shipping by fax at 604-681-4364 or by email: operations@cosbc.ca. Please use the following links for the latest Juan de Fuca agreements: To support the operation, the WGMRC has developed a network of entrepreneurs and fishermen (FOSET – Fishermen`s Oil Spill Emergency Team) as well as mutual aid agreements with other humanitarian organizations to support in case of a worst-case scenario. WCMRC also offers a range of preparatory training (e.B.ICS), exercise opportunities and third-party services.

This option is available at the time of a spill, when the polluter needs both equipment and personnel to assist with the clean-up. Any company can ask for help, but if it is not already a member, it must sign a third-party agreement and assume the financial responsibility of covering the cost of the response. Labor, equipment rental and administration costs are charged at standard rates. Shipowners of ships of 400 gross tonnage or more, or tankers of more than 150 gross tonnage or more calling at ports on The West Coast of Canada, must have a mandate agreement with the WGMRC and pay an annual fee to the organization to become members.
