4. (1) A lawyer may not include in a success fee agreement a provision that, iv. understands that all of the usual protections and controls of repairers between a lawyer and a client, as defined by the Law Society of Ontario and the Common Law, apply to the fee agreement. The document and contract you enter into with your lawyer is called the Retainer Agreement. The purpose of this agreement is to identify who your lawyer is, recognize that you are the client, and define and outline the scope of services you need. Your retainer agreement also defines the obligations you have to your lawyer as a client. For example, you should provide your lawyer with up-to-date information and instructions on how your case should proceed.
